“If there is one course most relevant to Tulane students and faculty in preparing them for the job market after college, it would be this one– everyone should take this course if given the opportunity.”

“Professor Lang is so amazing and supportive of learning. Her teaching style is engaging and I felt so focused and excited the whole class. Her passion is so refreshing.”

“Loved this class! Professor Lang did a great job introducing us to different AI tools and built our confidence to explore and use new tools on our own. I feel so prepared to tackle new AI tools and I have a much better understanding of the capabilities of AI. Loved talking about the ethics as well.”

“Best professor of all time”

Evaluations from Spring, 2024 Generative AI Tools Class (DATA 2025)

Julia’s passion, expertise, and knowledge come together incredibly well in facilitating powerful programs for students in the world of international service work and experiential education. She is a powerful mentor, a humble leader, and an incredibly organized, efficient, and effective teacher who utilizes her personal experience, interpersonal skills, and education very effectively

Drew Edwards, Executive Director Carpe Diem Education

Julia’s work with student groups is outstanding. She is super high energy and loads of fun, paired with an effortless ability to connect with staff and participants on a very quiet, profound level. Super safety conscious. Able to look ahead, planning for potential problems AND look up to see the bigger picture in the middle of rather difficult situations. She elegantly balances the emotional/ physical needs of a group and is full of joy, care and love for everyone around her. Julia is a pleasure to work with on these trips where anything can happen (and sometimes does). She’s built for these programs.

Julia’s intelligence, in combination with her amazing skills in leading a group of individuals in service-learning trips is what makes her stand out among all leaders I have ever met. Her passion and stamina together inspires all who surround her to better themselves. Such hard working and genuine people like Julia are difficult to come by. She continues to motivate students to dive deeper into what it means to become an active citizen. I had the wonderful pleasure to have her as my trip leader on an Alternative Spring Break trip to Yakima, Washington. She amazed me with the amount of planning she completed before going on the trip.  Julia’s optimism toward everything that happens, whether it is good or bad, shows how diligent, resilient and adaptable she is in achieving high goals. She would be an incredible asset to all organizations seeking a great leader.

Julia was one of the top students in Cornell’s Class of 2008. As a senior she was my student in Leadership and Non-Profits. Doris Buffett invited my students to go beyond the work of the class, to present proposals for personal projects for funding to the Sunshine Lady Foundation. Late in the semester with finals upon them, Julia was the only one of 31 very talented students who presented a proposal. Within hours, her proposal was accepted giving Julia critical funding for several worthy community projects.

The intelligence, initiative, energy, and drive she demonstrated that week shows up repeatedly in her work during the last eight years.

Her history of international service and interest in diverse cultures was evident in 2008 and continues to distinguish her work.

I am delighted that Julia is interested in teaching future generations of college students how to engage the world in transformative leadership. Her well-honed leadership skills, integrity and very positive personality will inspire future students and colleagues with whom she works.

I had the honor of sharing an office with Julia at the Center for Civic Engagement at Oregon State University. She played an essential role in building the Alternative Breaks program for students at OSU; she not only planned an extremely successful trip that she led to Yakima, WA, but she also took careful time to be sure that other trip leaders (including myself) were planning with intention to provide all participating students with the most meaningful service-learning experience possible. She takes great pride in her work, has a constantly positive/persistent attitude, and her passion for service is absolutely contagious. She is especially talented in building meaningful relationships with every person she meets, which is why she has such clear success working with such a wide range of students. I am so proud to call Julia my friend and colleague, and am confident that she will be a valuable asset to any employer that would be so wise to welcome her.

Julia was a member of Oregon Campus Compact’s statewide student advisory board that I coordinated. I also partnered with her to do a presentation at the NW Returnee Conference. Julia is one of the most detail oriented people I’ve had the pleasure to work with. She’s raises questions others haven’t considered and offers unique insights on how to solve challenges. Even when things don’t work as planned, Julia is flexible and able to change direction quickly. She’s calm under pressure and able to convey ideas to groups of people clearly and effectively. Julia is a natural leader and good at stepping up in a group when direction is needed. Julia engages in work that she’s passionate about, so I have no doubt that she’ll be an excellent employee or volunteer for any organization.

-Tina Shantz, Associate Director, Oregon Campus Compact

Julia is organized, reliable, hard-working and professional. She is an inspiring educator, and a joy to work with. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Julia was the House Director during my stay at I house International Living Cooperative (Corvallis, Oregon). Julia’s meticulous nature helped her to oversee the general management of the housing facility and ensure the safety and well being of the occupants.  Her passion and drive to interact with youth also pushed her to champion various initiatives for I house. One of which was the establishment of a Yoga/Mediation studio to encourage residents to pursue an active lifestyle. In addition, she volunteered her time to conduct free Yoga lessons on top of her daily management duties.
Julia has positively impacted lives of many I house residents, including mine. She emphasized the value of life and reminded many to strive for excellence in the work we engage, She is one of the reasons why I had a fulfilling 6 month International Exchange Stint in United States.  I believe her impeccable work ethics and zest for life will make her a great asset to any organization

Julia served as our trip leader on an Alternative Spring Break Program in Yakima, WA. She was not only our group leader; she was our mentor, supporter, and educator. She was passionate about our service learning and helping those we met along our journey. She genuinely leads by example. She ensured our safety and spent much of her time improving our group dynamic and team unity. After completing a service project, she would always sit with us to debrief. We would talk about our hopes, fears, and revelations. She helped us to navigate through these new discoveries and fostered our self-exploration. Julia is compassionate, attentive, and diligent. She truly exudes a light, and her radiance can easily be felt within minutes of meeting her. Julia would be an incredible asset to any organization
